Professor Julia Sinclair, chair of the Royal College of Psychiatrists addictions faculty, writes that an underfunded addiction services will not be able to meet the challenges posed by the Covid-19 mental health crisis. She recommends that the Government urgently increase funding to pre-austerity levels, replace the ‘race to the bottom’ outsourcing of contracts, and facilitate greater cooperation between mental health and addition services.
